The National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) has announced that Gizmodo Media Group General Counsel and EVP Lynn Oberlander will be the 2018 recipient of the Kenneth P. McLaughlin Award of Merit. The annual NPPA Awards recognize people for their commitment to the craft of visual journalism and to education that advances the profession.

Lynn joined Gizmodo Media in early 2017 from First Look Media (FLM) where she has served as General Counsel, Media Operations since early 2014. Lynn’s work at FLM was instrumental in obtaining support from the Press Freedom Defense Fund for the appeals case of one of NPPA’s members.

The McLaughlin Award is given to those who have rendered ongoing and outstanding service in the interests of news photography. McLaughlin, a photographer for the San Francisco Chronicle until his death in 1966, was the third president of the NPPA.
